This is a noticeable difference, one that might steer smaller naval air arms to Saab instead of Boeing. Saab hoped to position Swordfish as a lower-cost alternative to Boeing’s P-8 Poseidon, which is used by the U.S. Navy to hunt submarines and conduct surveillance over open waters. The firm targeted SAAB is actively marketing its new business jet-sized Swordfish multi-role maritime patrol aircraft which it hopes will offer a competitive alternative to larger platforms.
